Artist Statement

Joanne Shellan paints in oils and acrylics. She is known for her strong design and rich color. Her subjects range from landscape to figurative to still life and interiors.  Liana Bennett, accomplished oil painter and teacher for 35 years, says, “I’ve never met anyone who is so open to learning and—and I do mean ‘and’—follows up with that knowledge.” Ned Mueller, master oil painter says, "I have seen my good friend Joanne grow and mature into an exceptional artist. She has dedicated herself and worked hard to develop her bold and confidant style, sense of design and beautiful color into some very thoughtful and compelling concepts. She shares with us her enthusiasm and love of life and art with an uncompromising honesty. She and her art are a pleasure to enjoy!"

Shellan was chosen to represent Washington State with her own, year-long solo show at the Governor’s Mansion in Olympia in 2012. She has had work featured at the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle and Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. She continues to exhibit in galleries, enter juried shows and accept commissioned work.  She donates 25% of her annual profits to local charities and donates thousands of dollars a year in paintings to auctions.
