CHAYO WILSON
Artist Statement
I am named for my Costa Rican Grandmother who in her elder years took up pottery. My first clay class as, a first grader was in Palo Alto Calif at the Jr Museum. I Have been exploring clay for over 40 decades!
Most of my work is slab built using imprinted textures of botanicals, wooden stamps, lace etc. Cone 6 Stoneware and Porcelain . For the Last 6 years I have been embellishing my creations with Rice Paper transfers which add depth and a nice contrast to my textures.
I am inspired by nature and the archeological aspect of being human.
My pieces have the feeling of “Artifact” or “Sacred Object”,
Bringing Beauty and healing to the world is my hope as I am creating.
